Angie, La
| This is the only Bluegrass Festival I go to that is literally in the
middle of town. Chick Boyd, the owner of Great Southern R.V. Park,
puts on two festivals each year at his campground located on La. Hwy 21 right
in the center of the small town of Angie, La. The Festivals are in April
and September.
Great Southern is stretched along Hwy. 21 between the highway and the railroad track. This is a unique setting to say the least. A finer park and a better atmosphere for a bluegrass festival could not be found. The facilities are excellent. There is a modern shower house, a covered stage area, and good electrical and water hook-ups. Being in town makes for a handy place for a festival. There's a grocery, hardware, a bank, and motel in easy walking distance. Also within walking distance is one of the best cafes I've ever eaten at. Stuart's restraunt features genuine southern home cooking. Their breakfast ham is excellent. Chick has spent a lot of time and gone to a lot of expense to make Great Southern a unique place to visit. He has built a replica of an old country store and toy shop. But best if all is his train depot. His depot replica is air conditioned and has kitchen facilities. It serves as a great place to jam. To all of the above you add a good stage show and you have the makings of a "Great Southern" bluegrass festival. One I hate to miss! |
